You copied the link, pasted it into the downloader, hit the button - and… nothing. Or worse, an error message. Frustrating, right?
The good news: download failures almost always come down to one of seven simple causes, and each takes under two minutes to fix. This guide walks you through every one - from the most common culprit (private videos) to sneaky browser issues.

Fix 1: Check if the Video Is Actually Public (Most Common Cause)
Around 8 out of 10 "not working" cases happen right here.
Facebook downloaders - including ours - can only fetch public videos. If a video's privacy is set to Friends, Only Me, or it's posted inside a private group or a private profile, no downloader can access it. That's by design: those privacy settings belong to the creator, and bypassing them would violate both Facebook's rules and basic digital ethics.
How to check: Look at the icon next to the video's timestamp:
- Globe = Public > ✅ downloadable
- Two people = Friends only > ❌ not downloadable
- Lock = Only me / private > ❌ not downloadable
What to do: If it's not public, there's no legitimate workaround - ask the creator to make it public or send you the file directly. If it is public but still fails, keep reading.
Fix 2: Copy the Correct URL Format
A surprising number of failures come from copying the wrong link. These all work:
✅ https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=... ✅ https://www.facebook.com/reel/123456... ✅ https://fb.watch/abc123/
These do not work:
❌ A profile page link (facebook.com/username) ❌ A comment or share link ❌ A partial link missing https://
The reliable way to copy: tap the three-dot menu (⋯) on the video itself > Copy Link. Don't copy from the browser address bar while browsing your feed - that's often a temporary session URL that expires.
Fix 3: Clear Your Browser Cache (or Try Incognito)
If the tool worked before but suddenly stopped, stale cached data is a likely suspect. Old cookies and cached scripts can conflict with the updated version of the page.
Quick test first: open an Incognito / Private window, paste the link there, and try again. If it works in Incognito, your cache is the problem.
To clear it:
- Chrome (desktop): Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear browsing data > Cached images and files
- Safari (iPhone): Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data
- Android Chrome: Settings > Privacy > Clear browsing data
Fix 4: Temporarily Disable Your Ad Blocker
Some aggressive ad blockers and privacy extensions (especially script blockers like NoScript, or VPN ad-filtering) accidentally block the fetch request the downloader uses to grab your video - not just ads.

Fix 5: Try a Different Browser or Device
Sometimes the issue is device-specific:
- iPhone users: always use Safari, not Chrome or the Facebook in-app browser - iOS handles file downloads most reliably there.
- Facebook's in-app browser (the one that opens when you tap a link inside Facebook) often blocks downloads entirely. Copy the link, then open your real browser and paste it there.
- If one browser fails, try another - a 30-second test that often reveals the culprit instantly.
Fix 6: The Video Was Deleted or Is Region-Blocked
Sometimes the problem isn't on your end at all:
- Deleted video: If the creator removed it after you saw it, the link leads nowhere. Check: can you still watch the video on Facebook? If you can't play it there, no downloader can fetch it either.
- Region restrictions: Some pages restrict videos to specific countries. If the video plays for you but errors on fetch, this may be the cause - try again later or from a different network.
- Age-restricted content: Videos behind Facebook's age gate require a logged-in session, which public downloaders don't use.
Fix 7: Use an Updated, Working Downloader
Not all downloaders are maintained - Facebook changes its systems frequently, and abandoned tools break permanently. If another site failed you, that's likely why.
